An Army attorney tasked with prosecuting cases of sexual assault and abuse has been suspended from his duties after a woman he worked with accused him of groping her and trying to kiss her.
Lt. Col. Jay Morse was in charge of the Trial Counsel Assistance Program, which trains other Army attorneys on prosecuting crimes of sexual assault and domestic violence.
The alleged assault took place more than two years ago -- before Morse was in his current position -- at a 2011 conference for special victims prosecutors. The alleged victim just recently reported the incident.
Morse supervises 23 special victim prosecutors and he was the lead prosecutor in the case against Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, the soldier convicted of killing 16 Afghan civilians in 2012.
U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating the allegations. No charges have been filed.
An Army spokesperson provided the following statement to NBC News:
"We can confirm that this matter is currently under investigation and that the individual in question has been suspended from duties, pending the outcome of the investigation. Given that this is still an open case, we are precluded from providing any additional information at this point."
