Cuba and the U.S. announced Friday they would launch a pilot program to test direct mail service between the two countries.
They gave no date for the permanent reestablishment of service but indicated that it would not be any time soon, saying that technical, operational and safety aspects remained under discussion.
There has been no direct mail service since 1963 when it was cut at the height of the Cold War.
Friday's announcement came days before the Dec. 17th anniversary of the announcement by presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro that the two countries were re-establishing diplomatic relations.
