Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo is using his social media clout and worldwide recognition to raise money for children affected by the Syrian Civil War.
Ronaldo is an ambassador for Save the Children, an organization that provides education and safety for children, like the many growing up in war zones. He posted a photo to his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts with his son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. and his soccer ball.
Ronaldo is holding a photograph of a child called "Ayman," whose name has been changed for his safety. Over 1 million people have liked the Instagram so far, and even more have reacted to Ronaldo's Facebook post.
Ayman is five years old, which means he has spent his entire life in a Syrian war zone or in refugee camps. Ayman spent the first two years of his life indoors, away from the war ravaged streets and deafeningly loud explosions and gunfire. When he was three years old, his family fled Syria for the Jordanian border with thousands of other refugees.
Ayman did not start speaking until he was 5-years-old, which changed thanks to a teacher named Safayyeh.
Ronaldo is encouraging donations to help Ayman and thousands more like him.
