It’s not a surprise that the late singer Selena Quintanilla’s memory is being kept alive by all my her fans and family until this day.
But, a new project called, “Selena the One,” will allow her fans to enjoy her music on stage once again.
Billboard reports that Acrovirt, LLC, a tech company in Nebraska, is developing a walking, talking, singing and dancing, digital embodiment of the iconic singer. They are working with the Quintanilla family and scientists to create this hologram.
The tech company has a master research and development agreement with the University of California, San Diego to develop virtualization and interactive technologies.
There are plans to send “Selena the One,” on tour in 2018. Fans are already expressing mixed feelings about the project. Some are thrilled at the chance to get to see their beloved Selena once again, while others feel weird about the whole situation.
“By no means is this something that’s creepy or weird,” Suzette Quintanilla told Billboard during a phone interview. “We think it’s something amazing. A lot of the new fans that did not get to experience what Selena was about hopefully will be able to get a sense of her with this new technology that’s going to be coming out.”
Acrovirt is running an Indiegogo campaign to support this launch. The campaign will begin on April 16 and hopes to raise $500,000. Also, the San Diego Latino Film Festival is the official partner for the project.
