In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called for Congress to pass immigration reform, saying this would shrink deficits by $1 trillion in the next two decades and it would help those who come to the U.S. to "study, invent, contribute to our culture."
"Finally, if we're serious about economic growth, it is time to heed the call of business leaders, labor leaders, it is time to heed the call of business leaders, labor leaders, faith leaders, law enforcement -- and fix our broken immigration system," said President Obama in his State of the Union address.
Delivering the Republican response, House Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) said, "we're working on a step-by-step solution to immigration by first securing our borders and making sure America will always attract the best, brightest and hardest working from around the world."
