If you've been missing some of your iconic Spanish-language comedies, series and telenovelas you grew up with like "El Chapulin Colorado," "El Chavo," "Maria La Del Barrio," "Rebelde" and "Rubi," it now may be easier to find them.
As of June, Netflix released many Hispanic favorites such as "La Reina Del Sur," "Operacion Jaque," "La Prepago" and even Brazilian classics like "El Clon."
“Hispanics comprise a large part of the U.S. population, as a result they are also a large part of the current subscribers in the U.S.,” Jessica Rodriguez, VP of Content Acquisition at Netflix, told NBC News. “Hispanics are highly engaged digital citizens and more likely to own digital devices and it’s a natural destination for this audience.”
Netflix has partnered with U.S. Hispanic networks Telemundo and Univision, as well as international networks like Caracol to bring the Spanish-language classics to U.S. audiences. They already have a service in Latin America.
Come August, the company will also be touting an original series en español just like they did in English with "Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards." On August 7, Netflix will be releasing Club de Cuervos, a comedic drama about the members of a wealthy family who are battling to gain control of the beloved professional soccer team, Los Cuervos of Nuevo Toledo, after the patriarch of the family dies.
The 13-episode series stars Luis Gerardo Mendez, Mariana Trevino, Stephanie Cayo, Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Ianis Guerrero and Antonio de la Vega. It is the creation of Mexican filmmaker Gaz Alazraki, director of one of Mexico’s most lucrative box office hit "Nosotros los Nobles."
