Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of the hit musical "Hamilton," will be one of the stars of a new Disney adaptation, "Mary Poppins Returns," based on the book and the 1964 classic movie "Mary Poppins."
The playwright and actor of Puerto Rican heritage will play a new character, a lamplighter named Jack, who is friends with the beloved nanny Mary Poppins.
"Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives," said Disney in a statement about the movie, which will be released in theaters on Christmas 2018.
The movie, about a beloved nanny who can fly with an umbrella, among other things, is set in Depression-era London. British actress Emily Blunt will play Poppins.
