If you love hip-hop and the Broadway musical "Hamilton," the hit show's cast members hope you listen to them and go out and vote.
A new bilingual, musical video campaign created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the mastermind behind "Hamilton," has been launched to encourage eligible Latinos to vote in the upcoming general election.
Two of the videos are in English and a third is in Spanish. The first video features the female cast members of "Hamilton" challenging people to head to the polls in November. All the videos end with the same chorus: "Vote! Vote! America! Vote, vote! The time is now! Decide who wins this."
"And when you vote for president you get to pick who participates in the sequel," sings actress Renee Elise Goldsberry into the camera.
The Spanish-language video tells Hispanic voters, "Voten mi gente!" or "Vote, my people!"
The videos are a partnership with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and Hispanic Federation under the banner of Movimiento Hispano; a movement that has helped advance Latino voter mobilization.
Executive Director of Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, Hector E. Sanchez stated, "This is an absolutely critical election for our community in terms of civil rights, labor rights, and the rights of immigrants."
According to Pew Hispanic, more than 23 million Latinos are eligible to vote in 2016; a record number that speaks to the growth in the U.S. Hispanic population over the past decade. Millennials make up 44 percent of Latino eligible voters. A recent Pew survey found only 69 percent of Hispanics said they were "certain" they would vote in the upcoming election, and organizations are making an effort to boost Latino turnout.
