Production for a new television series about the late Tejana singer Selena just stumbled into a legal barrier.
Abraham Quintanilla Jr., Selena's father, filed a lawsuit Friday against her widower Chris Perez and the media production company Endemol Shine Latino to halt production of the bio-series, stating the estate owns "all proprietary rights in the name, voice, signature, photograph, and likeness of Selena."

Perez and Endemol Shine Latino agreed on a deal to create a series based off of his book To Selena With Love, which was published in 2012, and chronicles their love story and few years together.
The suit states, "Defendant Perez expressly agreed that he would not exploit any of the Entertainment Properties in any manner or medium, including, without limitation, by way of a book, television series, movie, or any other motion picture medium."

Throughout the year the Selena Quintanilla estate has worked to boost the image of the late singer. In 2016 Selena posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was honored with a Madame Tussauds Wax Museum figure in Hollywood and had a MAC Cosmetics makeup line.
