Google has chosen Puerto Rico as the place where it will do a limited pilot launch of its new modular cell phone later this year.

Google said it chose Puerto Rico for the limited launch of Project Ara since 75 percent of internet access in the island is through mobile devices. Puerto Rico is a US commonwealth. Google will partner with the carriers OpenMovil and Claro.

The ARA smartphone will have parts which can be swapped modularly and snapped on and off.
