Mendes, first generation American, talks about her upbringing and remembers that her mother told her: "You can do anything and we came here so that you have these opportunities."
Mendes is among Hollywood's most powerful Latinas and has not forgotten where she came from. Mendes talks about her clothing line with New York & Company that will soon carry sizes 0 through 20, something Mendes considers very important "specially coming from a Latin family where we have so many diverse body types!"
