Actress Eva Longoria is promoting a new campaign focused on celebrating the accomplishments of Latino families.
The Firsts Campaign is meant to celebrate Latinos who were first in their families to achieve milestones, such as graduating from high school or college, opening their own businesses or being the first to vote. It also calls on Hispanics to share their own “firsts” stories.
Longoria announced the campaign through a video released on the Latino Victory Project’s website. In it, she says she’s “inspired every day by the many Latinos and Latinas I see who dare to dream big and who become the first in the family to accomplish something new.”
“That’s why we’re launching the Firsts Campaign to celebrate these everyday victories in our community and to help ensure there are many more firsts across the country,” the Mexican-American actress adds.
She also says her group is busy laying the groundwork to elect the first Latina or Latino to the White House and invites Latinos to share what “firsts” they’d like to see.
The Latino Victory Project, which Longoria co-founded, is an organization that aims to build political power within the Latino community. The group’s president, Cristóbal Alex, said in a statement that so far in this election cycle there’s been “an unbelievable amount of negativity about our community and a litany of hostile policies.”

“This campaign is designed to celebrate the considerable contributions that the people in our community make every day, and remind young people that their story matters,” he added, referring to the Firsts Campaign.
