Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-California and fellow Democratic members of the Select Committee on Benghazi questioned the need for the group to continue its investigation.
The committee plans to hold its first public hearing Wednesday into the 2012 attacks in Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. Sanchez is the only Hispanic on the committee.
In advance, Democrats said they have posted on the Web as much information as possible to show the questions that have been asked and answered, including conclusions reached by seven committees and the Accountability Review Board. The board has also made recommendations.
“We’re spending $3.3 million for the select committee. It’s got no defined scope, much of what the continuing and ongoing allegations are have already been asked and answered,” Sanchez told NBC Latino. “And yet there’s an unwillingness to fund the processing of immigrant unaccompanied children” Sanchez said.
The committee’s spokesman Jamal Ware said Republican Rep.Trey Gowdy “is willing to risk answering the same question twice rather than risk it not be answered at all.”
Republicans can continue the committee even if the session ends. The hearing comes days after Hillary Clinton, who was Secretary of State at the time of the attack, was in Iowa where many cheered her as a potential 2016 presidential candidate.
