Flash flooding triggered by a strong thunderstorm killed at least eight people in southern Utah, authorities said. Five others remained missing early Tuesday. 4. 23,000 People Displaced by Two California Wildfires

A blaze raging north of San Francisco known as the Valley fire has burned across 95 square miles, destroyed at least 400 homes and claimed one life. A number of people remain unaccounted for.
