3. 5 Dead as Record Rainfall Floods Houston

More than a foot of rain deluged parts of Houston on Monday, leaving five dead as surging waters flooded homes and highways for thousands of residents who were warned to stay inside. Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in nine counties, hundreds of flights were canceled, mass transit was shut down and schools were closed after a season's worth of rain fell in just a matter of hours. 4. Obama Wedged in Debate Over 9/11 Report Ahead of Saudi Trip

As he prepares for a trip to Saudi Arabia, President Obama finds himself firmly wedged in the midst of a debate over legislation that many of the families of victims of the 9/11 attacks and some lawmakers say could help clear the way to hold that nation's government responsible in court. Saudi Arabia counters that if congressional efforts to hold that nation's government liable for the attacks are successful the Saudis will sell off $750 billion in American assets. 5. Kabul Bombing Kills 28, Injured Nearly 200

More than 28 people were killed and almost 200 injured after militants set off a suicide bomb and stormed a government building in the Afghan capital Tuesday, officials said. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the National Directorate of Security compound, where a ceremony was being held at the time of the bombing. Read more in NEWS.

6. Trump Makes Major Gaffe at Last N.Y. Rally

In his final pitch to New Yorkers, Trump opened with a knock on Ted Cruz's now-infamous dismissal of "New York values" by reading a written statement on what the attacks on Sept. 11 proved about New York values. It was an unusual move for the notoriously unscripted candidate, and it seemed to trip him up — he referred to "7/11" instead of "9/11" while reading his remarks. Still, the crowd cheered enthusiastically for the candidate, and the rally went off with just one major interruption — a brief protest at the start of Trump's remarks by about two dozen people chanting "no racist USA!" 7. Doris Roberts, Star of 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' Dies at 90

Doris Roberts, a character actress who labored honorably both on stage and screen for years before finding the perfect vehicle for her talents, the hit sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," died on Sunday. She was 90. "Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me," the actress' publicist, Janet K Daily, said in a statement to NBC News. "She never stopped." Read more in NEWS.
