1. Passenger plane crashes in France
A passenger plane carrying more than 140 people has crashed in the French Alps, officials said Tuesday, warning there might not be any survivors. French President Francois Hollande confirmed the "tragedy" near the town of Digne, saying that the wreckage of the plane is in a hard-to-reach area. German air traffic control spokesman Axel Raab told NBC News that the Germanwings A320 was traveling from Barcelona to Dusseldorf. Read more in NEWS.
2. Netanyahu's office denies Israel spied on Iran nuke talks
Israel did not snoop on closed-door talks over Iran's nuclear program involving the U.S., a senior official in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said on Tuesday, denying an earlier report. On Monday evening, the Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. officials learned of the spying — which it said was part of Netanyahu's effort to derail a deal on Tehran's nuclear program — when American intelligence agencies intercepted communications between Israeli officials. 3. Police say they can’t confirm UVA rape story in Rolling Stone
The fraternity at the center of a Rolling Stone article alleging a gang rape at its University of Virginia chapter last fall demanded that the magazine retract the article Monday after police said they couldn't substantiate the claim. "We have no basis to conclude that anything happened at that fraternity house," Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo told reporters. He said the student, identified in the article as Jackie, refused to give a statement or answer questions when she met with police in December, two weeks after the article was published. 4. Officer who shot Dontre Hamilton won’t get job back
The firing of Milwaukee Officer Christopher Manney, who shot and killed a mentally ill black man last year, was proper, a review board decided Monday night. Prosecutors declined to prosecute Manney in December, saying he'd shot Dontre Hamilton, who had been sleeping in a park, in self-defense. The U.S. Justice Department has said it will review the shooting to determine whether it should pursue a federal civil rights prosecution. Read more in NEWS.
5. Angelina Jolie has ovaries removed
Angelina Jolie has had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed after tests indicated possible signs of cancer, the actress disclosed in a New York Times op-ed Tuesday. Jolie said that the preventative laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy she underwent last week means she is now in menopause and can no longer have any more children. Jolie, whose mother died of cancer, also had a double mastectomy two years ago. Read more in HEALTH.
