An Oklahoma teenager who police say decided to commit murder because he was bored was found guilty by a Stephens County jury on Friday.

Chancey Luna, 17, was in a car with two other teens in August 2013 when he shot and killed a college baseball player who was out for a jog, police said. The 22-year-old Australian ballplayer, Christopher Lane, was visiting Duncan, Oklahoma, that weekend to see his girlfriend.

A jury found Luna guilty of first-degree murder on Friday. Prosecutors say he pulled the trigger; defense attorneys contended he only meant to scare the jogger, not kill him.

Luna faces life in prison without the possibility of parole as his maximum sentence and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 16.The jury recommended the harshest sentence.

“This naughty boy is now never going to do this to any other family,” said Donna Lane, Chris’s mother, according to NBC affiliate KFOR.

The two other teens in the case have also been charged. Michael Jones, 19, who was driving the car pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of a plea bargain and is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole. James Edwards Jr., 17, testified in Luna's trial as part of a plea agreement that reduced his first-degree murder charge to being an accessory after the fact.
