Accused cop killer Eric Frein, who has been on the run for more than a month, was likely spotted with a rifle Friday night near a Pennsylvania high school, police said Saturday. "We had a sighting for which we are assigning a high level of credibility," State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters. Although a definite identification of the individual could not be made, Bivens said a civilian was able to describe Frein in great detail and was less than 20 feet away from him when the "surprise encounter" occurred near the campus of Pocono Mountain East High School, which he attended. Bivens said that Frein, 31, was not on the school's campus, and there are currently no plans to close the school Monday because there is a "strong police presence in that area."
Another person reported possibly seeing Frein, and two people reported what might have been blood on their porches earlier in the week, Bivens said. Testing was underway to determine if the liquid was blood and whether or not it is related to Frein, Bivens said.
Frein is accused of killing a trooper and critically wounding another in a Sept. 12 ambush on the Blooming Grove barracks, and more than 1,000 authorities have been searching for him since. Frein is on the FBI's Most Wanted List, where he is described as a weapons enthusiast and a survivalist. "Everybody has one mission and that mission is to apprehend this individual," Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said Saturday.
