A Los Angeles woman crawled onto the roof of her home to hide from a transient who busted inside — and came only a few feet away from finding her. The woman was able to call 911 after she was awoken by the man in her Venice home Wednesday morning, police said. Clad only in a flannel shirt, resident Melora Rivera climbed out of her second-story window to escape from him, according to a 911 call obtained by Venice311.org. The intruder pursued her, and a witness’ photo taken from the scene and posted on Twitter shows Rivera huddled underneath the eaves with the man behind her.
The LAPD arrived while Rivera was on the roof, and she was brought down unharmed. She said he got in after breaking through a locked door while she was asleep. The suspect, identified as Christian Hicks, 29, was apprehended at the scene. Hicks, known in the neighborhood as being homeless, was charged with burglary and his bail was set at $50,000. He is expected in court Friday.
