A 4-year-old boy was found dead in a luxury New York apartment with "horrific" cigarette burns and cuts to his face and body, police said.
Myls Dobson had been abused for several days before he was found dead in a bathtub of the Ritz Plaza building, in Midtown Manhattan, according to the NYPD on Thursday.
The boy's babysitter, 27-year-old Kryzie King, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment of the first degree. She has not yet been charged, police said.
"It was a tragic, tragic death of that young boy," NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told a press conference on Thursday. "[He had] horrific injuries sustained over a period of days."
Police sources told NBC News that King had been left in charge of Dobson in December after the boy's father was arrested and jailed. The boy was found with cigarette burns and cuts on his face, body, and genitals, the sources said.
Dobson was found unconscious just before 11 a.m. Wednesday in the building on West 48th Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue.
King initially said the boy had fallen into the bathtub while she was out of the room. But according to police sources speaking to NBC News New York she later changed this story and told officers that she had physically disciplined Dobson, but not killed him.
Dobson was taken to Roosevelt Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. The medical examiner has not yet returned a cause of death, police said.
