If there's anything Bollywood producers love, it's a good melodrama that packs a lot of emotional punch. Given that, it's no surprise that 'The Fault in Our Stars' — John Green's novel about two young cancer patients in love — will soon be adapted by the Hindi film industry.
"We think the story will have an emotional [connection] with Indian audiences," said Vijay Singh, the CEO of the Mumbai-based Fox Star Studios told the Hollywood Reporter. "The original English version was released here a couple of weeks ago and is still running. The film has done a business of about $1 million. We had actually thought of adapting it locally even before the film was released here."
The best-selling novel follows the lives of a 16-year-old cancer patient and her relationship with a teenage cancer survivor that she meets while attending a support group. Hollywood released its own version of the story — featuring stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff — in early June, and the film has grossed $263 million worldwide to date.
There's no word yet on which young Bollywood stars will be cast in the remake.
