"Moana" star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been named 2016’s Sexiest Man Alive by "People," the magazine announced this morning.
When asked about the traits that made him sexy to his fans, the actor and former WWE Champion attributed his appeal to a sense of humor.
“And I think probably just not trying to be sexy and just being cool and confident in your movies,” he told "People." “I think with a lot of my fans, I’ve gotten to a very, very cool place where there’s a direct line between the man they know off-screen and the man they see on-screen.”
Johnson, who was born in California and is half Samoan, is not the first entertainer of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage to appear on People’s annual list of sexiest men alive. Actors John Cho, Daniel Dae Kim, Ki Hong Lee, Will Yun, and Yul Kwon, as well as pianist Lang Lang, have been recognized in previous years. Keanu Reeves was retroactively given the title of 1994 Sexiest Man Alive in 2015.
Johnson made clear his enthusiasm for his new title, sharing his initial reaction to the news.
“I said, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then what went through my mind was just how cool and exciting it is,” Johnson told "People." “And then I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle.’ I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all, this is it.”
That may not be entirely true, however. In the same interview, Johnson also told the magazine that he would seriously consider running for President of the United States, saying that there’s a “good chance” he will run for the office one day.
“I used to say it jokingly but every time I was asked, it was with a real genuine interest. And it was very earnest,” he said in the interview.
“And so I started to really think. Could I make a difference? Could I surround myself with really brilliant people to help me make decisions? Do I care about this country? And when the answers continued to come up yes, then I thought, there’s a good chance. Yeah, one day,” he added.
