The film adaptation of "Crazy Rich Asians" will begin production in spring 2017 in Singapore.

“Crazy Rich Asians,” the film based on the best-selling novel by Kevin Kwan, began filming Monday, Warner Bros. Pictures announced.

A romantic comedy featuring an entirely Asian cast, the film stars “Fresh Off the Boat” actress Constance Wu and actor Henry Golding, who will be making his feature film debut.

Warner Bros. also announced the addition of several new cast members, including actress and rapper Nora Lum — also known as Awkwafina — and "The Daily Show" correspondent Ronny Chieng.

The story centers around Rachel Chu (Wu), a native New Yorker who joins her boyfriend, Nick Young (Golding), for his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. There, Rachel is shocked to find out that Nick is a member of one of the country’s wealthiest families as well as one of the region's most eligible bachelors. Rachel must navigate jealous socialites and the disapproval of Nick’s mother, played by Michelle Yeoh.

"Crazy Rich Asians" is the first studio film in a "long, long time" to feature an all-Asian cast, director Jon M. Chu noted earlier this year.

The large cast also includes Gemma Chan (“Humans”), Chris Pang (“Marco Polo”), and Sonoya Mizuno (La La Land). They will be joined by several Singaporean actors, including Pierre Png, Fiona Xie, and Tan Kheng Hua. Filming will take place entirely in Singapore and Malaysia, according to Warner Bros.

A release date has yet to be announced.
