A ruff moment in this poor pup’s life has turned into a paws-itive now that the officer who found the 2-year-old goldendoodle left behind at a Las Vegas airport has made him one of the family.
The dog, who was given the nickname “Jet Blue,” was found tied to a ticketing counter at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas earlier this month after his owner allegedly left him to catch her flight.
The woman was arrested by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on allegations that she went on to her departure gate without the pup because she did not have the proper paperwork to fly with him.
Police shared video that shows the woman walking up to the counter with the dog running around behind her. The woman eventually walks away, leaving the dog’s leash tied to the counter. There was no audio in the clip.
The dog was placed into foster care after a 10-day hold period in which his owner failed to claim him, police said.
Officer Skeeter Black was the one to respond to the call about Jet Blue on Feb. 2, according to the department. And now he will be the one to give Jet Blue his forever home.
In social media posts on Saturday, police said that Black and his family had been looking to adopt a goldendoodle since September and had already been approved through the rescue.
“Following the mandatory hold period, the rescue organization selected them to provide Jet Blue with the safe and loving home he deserves,” the department said on Instagram. “What began as a heartbreaking act of abandonment has turned into a powerful example of compassion, teamwork, and community partnership.”
Jet Blue appears to be perfectly content with his new situation, according to videos and pictures shared with the department. One clip shows Black giving the pup chin scratches as Jet Blue’s tail wags with excitement.
A photo showed the family all together at an adoption event, with Jet Blue standing proudly on his leash in front of his new humans.
And though it may have resulted in a happy ending in Jet Blue's case, police previously urged the public, "please don’t abandon your dog at the airport — or anywhere else."
