Dell Inc. Monday said it had cut prices across a broad range of products aimed at U.S. corporate customers as the computer maker passed along price declines in underlying components.

The Round Rock, Texas-based company, the world's largest maker of personal computers, said it was reducing prices on server computers, workstation, desktop and notebook PCs and flat-panel computer displays.

The price reductions reflect lower prices for components such as memory chips, computer hard disks and microprocessors, a Dell spokesman said. Dell provided no average estimate of the extent of the cuts for various products.

Spokesman Bob Kaufman said the price cuts ranged up to as much as 22 percent on a workhorse Dell PowerEdge server -- the 4600 dual-processor model with four hard disk drives -- which is now priced at $4,194.

An Optiflex SX280 desktop system with a low-end Intel Pentium 4 chip and a 17-inch flat panel monitor was cut $100, or 6.5 percent, to $1,439, Dell said in a statement.

In another example, a Latitude D600 notebook computer with a 14.1-inch screen was cut $220, or 11 percent, to $1,747.

Entry-level flat panel monitors fell to $249 for a 15-inch model and $299 for a 17-inch screen, the company said.

Both contract and spot-market prices for computer memory chips fell in November and analysts predict further declines in December.

Dell is microprocessor maker Intel Corp.'s biggest customer and, as such, is able to negotiate volume discounts from Intel.
