If spying on foreign leaders allegedly began in 2002 during then-President Bush's administration then he has questions to answer, too, Mika Brzezinski said.

President Obama is feeling the heat after reports emerged this weekend that the U.S. has been spying on world leaders.

According to the report, the U.S. began tapping German Chancellor Angela Merkel's phone in 2002, during former President George W. Bush's term in office.

"Mika... would you just pop right in and defend the president?" host Joe Scarborough said to Mika Brzezinski. "Because God knows we need somebody defending him this morning given all the things going on."

"It started in the Bush administration, so I guess you could ask if President Bush knew, too, and put those questions to him as well," Brzezinski responded.

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer defended Obama on Tuesday.

“I don’t begrudge a president. It’s such a hard job,” he said on Morning Joe. “President Obama is one of the most prepared presidents I have ever met. It is too soon. It would be wrong to put blame at his feet.”
