"These members are doing exactly what they were elected to do," said Amy Kremer, the head of Tea Party Express.

Amy Kremer, the head of the national group Tea Party Express, endorsed Congress members’ tactic of shutting down the government in order to protest President Obama’s signature health care law in an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Jansing Tuesday.

“These members are doing exactly what they were elected to do,” Kremer said. “This is not really about the government shutdown, this is about Obamacare, a bad law that has been shoved down our throats.”

Jansing pointed out that the law was passed by both houses and upheld by the Supreme Court. The 2012 election, which handed Obama a solid victory, was largely seen as a referendum on the health care law after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney made its repeal a cornerstone of his campaign.

“Quite frankly, if the American people had known all of the bad stuff that they right now, had they known that last November, I’m not so sure that the election would have been what it turned out to be,” Kremer said.

Obama and House Speaker John Boehner are still wide apart on negotiations on day eight of the government shutdown.

Kremer said that Obama and Harry Reid “wanted a shutdown.”

“President Obama keeps say bring a C.R., bring a clean C.R. to the floor and let them vote on it,” Kremer told Jansing. “Well, my question is, why doesn’t Harry Reid bring the clean ‘defund Obamacare’ to the floor and let the Senate vote on it? Why doesn’t he bring the clean ‘delay Obamacare’ bill to the floor and let them vote on that?”
