"For too long we've let D.C. define our brand. We're going to stop that," the Louisiana governor said.

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana doesn’t want the Republicans in Washington, D.C., to determine the GOP’s image.

“For too long we’ve let D.C. define our brand. We’re going to stop that,” he said Tuesday on Morning Joe.

Jindal is the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, which launched an advertisement campaign proclaiming the success of the GOP brand in the states. The goal is to “take back” the Republican brand from Washington.

“I think there’s a lot of just general frustration at the dysfunction in D.C. I think there’s also a lot of frustration at the lack of leadership coming out of the White House. It doesn’t have to be that way,” he said.

The public sees governors making the “tough choices,” on schools and the economy, among other issues, Jindal said.

For example, a new poll released Tuesday showed Gov. Chris Christie, a popular incumbent in the blue state of New Jersey, leading Democratic challenger Sen. Barbara Buono 58% to 25% on the day of their first scheduled debate.

“We said we’re going to stop out-sourcing our brand to Washington, D.C.,” Jindal said. “Because if you want to see conservative ideas being applied, it’s not happening in D.C.; it is happening in our state capitals.”
