The Congressional Budget Office usually gives an update on the country's balance sheet. But not this month. 
Every month, we get an update on the country’s balance sheet from the Congressional Budget Office. Except for this month, because Republicans shut down the government over Obamacare.
“Because a lapse in appropriated funds has caused CBO to largely shut down its operations, the Monthly Budget Review, which ordinarily would be issued this morning, will not be published today or during the duration of the government shutdown,” the agency said.”
In effect, the GOP’s concerns over how we’re spending our money have kept us from getting the latest on how much money we’re actually spending and taking in every month.
We do know the general trajectory, though—CBO reports this year have shown the deficit to be shrinking faster than we had expected.
