A federal grand jury is investigating whether last year's murder of Dr. George Tiller was connected to a broader case involving radical anti-abortion activists, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the case who spoke to the Associated Press.

Dr. Tiller was shot in his Wichita church in May 2009. Anti-abortion activist Scott Roeder is serving a life sentence for the killing.

The official says several federal Civil Rights prosecutors from Washington are holding grand jury proceedings in Kansas City and looking into whether there's a broader case surrounding Dr. Tiller's murder.
