Social networking site MySpace.com on Tuesday formally announced it has partnered with San Francisco-based Snocap, a provider of copyright management services, to allow music sales on MySpace member sites.
The digital licensing software will allow artists to sell music from their profile pages and to set up a digital store front.
The MySpace and Snocap music services are expected to become available by the end of the calendar year.
On Friday, MySpace executives said the site would soon roll out music services, and a formal announcement was expected to come on Tuesday.
The service will likely pose a threat to existing digital music stores from the likes of Apple Computer Inc., Napster Inc. and RealNetworks Inc.
