Hoping to attend next year’s Winter Olympic Games? Get ready to travel. And travel. And travel.

The Milan Cortina Olympics will be spread out across northern Italy, covering an area of more than 10,000 square miles across seven regions ranging from dense, urban Milan to mountainous Livigno.

Sarah Hirshland, the chief executive of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, asked fans to be realistic and patient if attempting to travel to multiple venues.

“It’s a fragmented footprint and frankly that’s potentially an advantage for Team USA,” Hirshland said. “We pride ourselves on being the most prepared team out there and so when there are challenges to fit into a footprint, our opportunity is to use that to our advantage and that’s how we’re thinking about it.”

However, she added, “it’s worth noting our athletes are comfortable in Italy. They compete there often. Many of them train there. So, it is not a strange location for them. They’ll feel right at home.”

NBC News has mapped out the venues and regions below.
