Savannah Guthrie and Terry Gannon are ready to introduce the world’s top athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
The "TODAY" co-anchor and NBC Sports commentator were announced on Tuesday as the co-hosts of the opening ceremony for the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The opening ceremony for the 2026 Winter Games will take place on Feb. 6 and will be shown on NBC and streamed on Peacock.
Savannah has become an Olympic fixture, as this will be her fourth time broadcasting an opening ceremony celebration. She co-hosted the broadcast for the Olympics in Tokyo and Beijing, and last summer, she was stationed on a bridge over the Seine in Paris alongside Hoda Kotb for the historic boat parade.
Savannah will also continue to co-anchor "TODAY" during the Milan Cortina Olympics, as she previously did for the Olympics in London, Sochi, PyeongChang, Tokyo and Paris.
This will be Gannon’s first time hosting the opening ceremony after having hosted the past four Olympic closing ceremonies.
Savannah and Gannon will be joined in the broadcast booth by a Winter Olympics legend, three-time snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White.
The five-time Olympian will offer his commentary alongside Savannah and Gannon when the athletes enter San Siro Stadium in Milan for the Parade of Nations. The historic stadium, which opened in 1926, is home to professional soccer teams AC Milan and Inter Milan.
White previously contributed to NBC Olympics coverage for the Olympic Games in London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016).
“The Olympics have been such a huge part of my life, and to return in this new role — celebrating the athletes, the energy, and the incredible backdrop of Italy — is truly an honor,” White said in a news release. “I know what that moment means when the world is watching, and I can’t wait to help bring that magic to everyone at home.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to host the Opening Ceremony alongside the incomparable Terry Gannon and snowboarding legend Shaun White,” Savannah said in a statement. “It’s such an honor to celebrate the world’s best athletes and introduce the magic and wonder of the Winter Games and northern Italy to viewers at home.”
The 2026 Games mark the first Winter Olympics in Western Europe since the 2006 Torino Olympics in Italy.
NBC Sports commentator Mike Tirico will also be part of the opening ceremony coverage, two days before he handles the play-by-play call for Super Bowl 60 on NBC and Peacock.
Live coverage of the opening ceremony starts at 12 p.m. ET on Feb. 6, 2026, and primetime coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET, both on NBC and Peacock.
The opening ceremony will be produced by Lindsay Schanzer and directed by Mike Sheehan, both of whom are Sports Emmy Award winners.
