Prince Harry was seen entering King Charles III’s residence in London on Wednesday, months after Harry claimed his father refused to speak to him.

Buckingham Palace officials confirmed that the two met for a private tea at the king's private residence. It was the first time Harry and Charles, 76, have met in 19 months.

Harry, 40, is in the U.K. for the WellChild Awards, a charity he patronizes that recognizes Britain’s seriously ill children and their caregivers. His first stop Monday was to visit his grandmother's grave at Windsor to lay flowers at Queen Elizabeth II's final resting place.

Speculation that he and Charles two would meet was rife even before he was spotted exiting a car at the royal residence, Clarence House, on Wednesday evening.

The car that brought him was seen leaving less than an hour later. Harry was in the Range Rover as it departed, according to Sky News.

The relationship between Harry and Charles has been strained since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, quit front-line royal duties in 2020 and moved to California to launch several media ventures and charitable work.

After Harry stepped down from his duties, his protection was downgraded from full-time while he was in the U.K. to being considered case by case. He lost an appeal in court this year to overturn the decision.

Harry told the BBC in May that his father would not speak to him “because of this security stuff.”

Harry said that he was eager to reconcile with the Royal Family and that "there's no point in continuing to fight people."

The prince has made other trips to London over the past year and a half, in part because of his security appeal and a legal battle with Rupert Murdoch’s British newspaper group regarding intrusions into his privacy.

But his wife and two children have remained at home in California. He could not envision bringing Meghan, Archie and Lilibet without guaranteed security, he had told the BBC.

In that time, relations with his brother, the heir to the throne, Prince William, do not appear to have improved. The pair have not met since February 2024.

Prince William traveled to Cardiff on Wednesday to visit a new mental health hub in Principality Stadium in honor of World Suicide Prevention Day.
