GM Loses Communications Chief at a Critical Time

General Motor's communications chief is leaving the company and a replacement is expected to be named at a future date, the automaker said Monday.

Selim Bingol has served as GM's senior vice president, global communications and and public policy, since October 2012.

The news comes at a crucial time for GM, which is under investigation by regulators and Congress and is facing lawsuits over an ignition switch defect that has been linked to 13 deaths and numerous accidents. GM has recalled 2.6 million vehicles worldwide because of the defect.

The automaker is also losing its head of human resources, Melissa Howell, who will be replaced by Jon Quattrone, a GM veteran since 1975.
