An elite FBI hostage team rescued a man Wednesday after he was kidnapped from his home five days ago, the FBI said.

Frank Arthur Janssen, 63, was found safe in an apartment complex in Atlanta, Ga., after being taken against his will from his house in Wake Forest, N.C., according to authorities.

FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch said in a statement Thursday that investigators worked with an extensive list of law enforcement agencies to locate Janssen.

He was rescued by the FBI's specialist Hostage Rescue Team shortly before noon.

Police said Janssen was last seen at 9 a.m. on April 5 when he returned from a bike ride, NBC station WNCN reported. He was not home when his wife returned from shopping and she told police she became concerned when she saw blood outside the property.

Lynch told The Associated Press by telephone that she had no additional information about how the rescue was carried out or what the motive for the kidnap might be.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
