It could take weeks, months or even years for the community of Oso, Wash., to recover from the mile-wide mudslide that buried the rural town in one of the worst landslide disasters in U.S. history. At least 16 people were confirmed dead on Wednesday evening and at least 90 were still reported missing. But how does an event like this happen? And why were these people not better prepared?
