A 22-week-old baby boy who survived the Washington mudslide “is improving” but remains in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center, the Seattle hospital said Monday evening.
The boy, Duke Suddarth, was transferred to the downtown hospital on Saturday. His mother, Amanda Skorjanc, 25, was in satisfactory condition, officials said.
The hospital said Skorjanc and her family were not participating in media interviews or providing photographs to the public.
But the Skorjanc and Suddarth families issued a statement of support to their neighbors through Harborview Medical Center, which houses a regional trauma center and is about 60 miles southwest from the site of the slide.
“We wish to express our heartfelt support to our neighbors and friends who are suffering as a result of the recent landslide,” the statement said. “We send our prayers and hope to the entire community that has been affected by this tragedy.”
Three other slide survivors remained in serious condition at Harborview — an 81-year-old male, a 58-year-old male and a 37-year-old male, the hospital said.
Officials late Monday raised the death toll from Saturday's disaster to 14, with over 100 people are still unaccounted for.
