"Friends" star Matthew Perry will play liberal lion Ted Kennedy in Reelz's four-part miniseries "The Kennedys — After Camelot," a sequel to a 2011 miniseries that aired on the same cable channel.
Perry will portray the late Massachusetts senator in the years following the assassinations of his brothers, President John F. Kennedy and New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. He will star opposite Katie Holmes, who is set to reprise her role as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, the slain president's widow.
“We are privileged to have an actor of Matthew Perry’s stature and ability take on the role of such a complex and controversial figure as Ted Kennedy,” said executive producer Michael Prupas.
The first eight-part Kennedy miniseries aired on Reelz in April 2011. It received numerous awards, although it was dogged by allegations of inaccuracy.
The "The Kennedys — After Camelot" is based on the book “After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to the Present” by biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli.
The miniseries will be filmed in Canada this spring and is due to premiere in spring of 2017.
