Amazon.com Inc said it would stop selling daily deals on its Amazon Local website and app, starting Dec. 18. The online retailer said customers would be able to make purchases on the website between Oct. 30 through Dec. 18, and those who have purchased vouchers for the platform would be able to use them according to the terms.

Amazon didn't give a reason for the move but daily deals sites have struggled financially in the past few years. Earlier this month, local deals platform LivingSocial announced it is laying off 200 people, or about 20 percent of its workforce. In September, rival Groupon announced it planned to lay off about 1,100 people, or nearly 10 percent of its staff, over the next year and shutter operations in several smaller countries.
