Jeb Bush raised about $13.4 million between July and September, falling short of rival Ben Carson's expected $20 million third quarter fundraising haul but besting the total collected by other Republican hopefuls like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina.

But according to preliminary numbers provided by the campaign, Bush has less money left in the bank ($10.3 million) than the reported totals for rivals Carson ($11.5 million), Rubio ($11 million) and Ted Cruz ($13.5 million).

Rubio has raised about $6 million this quarter, while Fiorina has hauled in about $6.8 million and Cruz reeled in about $12.2 million.

Bush's campaign notes that the campaign has raised an average of $230,000 per day, and that their total nearly matches former GOP nominee Mitt Romney's equivalent total during the same period of time in 2011.

In a memo to supporters, the campaign also stressed Bush's advantage with endorsements from elected officials and his extensive ground operation in early primary states.

At the beginning of his presidential run, Bush stunned the rest of the GOP field by amassing a $114 million war chest - with more than $11 million raised by his campaign and $103 million raised by his allied super PAC, Right to Rise.

Bush announced his presidential run on June 15 and raised about $11.4 million in hard dollars in just the 16 days before the end of the second quarter fundraising deadline.

A full report will be filed with the Federal Election Commission later today.
