If you happen to be eating out by yourself more frequently these days, you’ve got plenty of company. Online restaurant reservations provider OpenTable says an analysis of its booking data shows a 62 percent rise in solo reservations over the past two years.

Among major metropolitan areas, Dallas, Miami, Denver, New York, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Chicago experienced the strongest growth in reservations for one, the company said.

The findings, though far from scientific, indicate that dining alone at a restaurant is no longer frowned upon as a socially awkward act, OpenTable said.

"Solo dining is about treating yourself to a delicious experience and savoring every bite. From communal and counter seating to doting table service, restaurants are welcoming parties of one with open arms," said Caroline Potter, OpenTable spokesperson.
