Microsoft is bringing Windows 10 to mobile, and at a Tuesday launch event the company unveiled the first flagship phones on the new operating system: the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.
As is typical with new phones, the 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch phones both come packed with faster processors and other beefed-up features compared to their predecessors -- but Microsoft focused on showcasing how the phones work with Windows 10.
"Full Windows 10 is coming to the phone...this means Office…this means it’s supposed to be the most productive phone you've ever seen,” said Microsoft executive Panos Panay at the New York City event.

Panay brought Microsoft’s Bryan Roper on stage for a relatively long demonstration of the Lumia 950 models’ ability to connect to laptops and other devices via a special dock. Using the “universal apps” designed for Windows 10, workers can first open a program on the phone, and switch easily to work on their laptop instead.
The Microsoft executives also talked up the cameras on the $549 Lumia 950 and $649 950 XL, both of which will be available in November. The phones feature a 20-megapixel rear camera with a “natural flash” feature, and they can shoot ultra-high-definition 4K video.
The new Lumias also include dual antennas, which are meant to boost cell reception, and a USB-C charging port that can juice a dead phone to 50-percent battery power in a half hour.
Microsoft also said mentioned that it’s rolling out a low-end Lumia, too: the $139 Lumia 550.
