President Barack Obama will deliver remarks at the White House on Tuesday urging Congress to act "promptly and in a bipartisan fashion to extend emergency unemployment benefits."
In a statement, the administration said Obama "will talk about the toll that allowing unemployment benefits to expire has had on 1.3 million Americans, and he'll warn of the negative consequences for the broader American economy if Congress fails to act quickly on this urgent priority."
Congress failed to extend the jobless benefits at the end of 2013. A bipartisan team of senators is working on legislation to offer a temprary extension of the aid; it is expected to face its first procedural vote on Monday.
The White House took to Twitter Friday to push passage of the legislation.
