Three brothers — including a 1-year-old — were stabbed to death and their mother and sister wounded in a machete attack in a North Carolina home, police said on Wednesday.

A suspect, Ehe Lar Doh Htoo, 18, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Police in the city of New Bern said that he appeared to be a neighbor. The father was at work when the attack happened on Tuesday night, police said.

The family are of Burmese descent, police said. The brothers were 12, 5 and 1. Two died in the house, and one died at the hospital, police said. The mother and sister were in good condition, police said. Their names were not immediately released.

Htoo was ordered to appear in court on Thursday. Police said they could not comment on additional charges.
