Israel police confirmed to NBC News on Sunday afternoon that some Israelis have been arrested in connection with the death of Palestinian teen Mohammed Abu Khdeir.

Chief Inspector Micky Rosenfeld, foreign press spokesman for the Israel Police, said that "a few Israeli Jews" were arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of involvement in the 16-year-old's death. He said the investigation is continuing.

Khdeir was abducted last week and his charred body found a short while later in a Jerusalem forest in what Palestinians say was a revenge killing for the earlier deaths of three Israeli teens.

Israel newspaper Haaretz daily said six suspects were in custody, but police did not confirm that number.
