Is hyper-minimalistic messaging app Yo — which lets users send just the word "Yo" to each other — still a little more than you care to deal with? You're in luck: Hot on the heels of Yo's million-dollar funding, an app has appeared that does even less — in fact, it does nothing. It's called The Nothing App.
"I really wanted to put emphasis on a minimal user interface," writes lead designer and engineer Jake Chapman on the Nothing App page. "I used the newest technology, Swift programming language, to make sure I was pushing the boundaries of what we can do with nothing."
It's hard to see how he could have done less. Nothing is truly nothing: With no interface, no features, and no anything, you'll be doing nothing in no time. The app "should run on any device," Chapman told NBC News in an email. "I just put it on my phone."
The Nothing App is, of course, a joke — as Chapman points out at the bottom of the page. Instead of "wasting our time and resources," presumably on frivolous apps like Yo, he suggests helping someone get access to clean water.
Nothing, being nothing, is not available for download (but the source code is).
