Principal: Arts education gives us smart, empowered kids

Principal Carolyn McKnight of the East Los Angeles Performing Arts Academy tells NBC’s Harry Smith about how important arts education is to her students. McKnight’s school is one of the 17 schools partnered with the Exploring the Arts foundation, a nonprofit started by Tony Bennett and his wife, Susan Benedetto, in 1999. The program provides guidance, resources and funding to high school music and arts programs.
