Sgt. Gonell fights back tears recounting 'constant trauma' of Jan. 6 riot

During his opening statement, U.S. Capitol Sergeant Aquilino Gonell recounted his traumatic experience defending the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot. Gonell explained that the day has taken an emotional toll on him and said, "for most people, January 6 happened for a few hours, but for those of us who were in the thick of it, it has not ended."
