Britain’s heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles and his wife Camilla will meet President Bush when they travel to the United States for their first joint official tour, a spokesman said Wednesday.
Charles, who married Camilla in April after a 35-year affair, last visited the United States in 2004 for the funeral of former President Ronald Reagan.
He had previously visited the country with his first wife, Princess Diana, who was hugely popular among Americans. She died in a car crash in Paris in 1997 but is still regularly discussed in the country’s celebrity press.
A spokeswoman for Charles’ office at Clarence House said the royal couple would visit New York, Washington and San Francisco in early November.
They would have lunch and dinner at the White House with Bush and the first lady and would also meet the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan.
Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was for a long time reviled in the British press as the mistress who broke up Charles’ marriage to Diana, but the media and British public have softened toward her since their wedding.
